I had my first encounter with a ferret years ago. It was an unforgettable moment. While gazing from my office window one rainy afternoon enjoying the sound of the gentle spring rain hitting the pane, my eye was caught by the sight of a man in the parking lot rapidly opening and closing his umbrella, aiming it at something on the ground.
As I looked more closely, I saw that he was trying to defend himself from a little animal. I was able to rescue the little golden (butterscotch colored) ferret. Ultimately he was adopted by a woman who kept ferrets and found him a forever loving home. Handling this little creature was an amazing experience.
I sure wish I had known ChristmasFerrets (Chris, pictured at left) when that first ferret had crossed my path. Several years passed, however, before I met this ferret-friendly lady in the AOL Pets community. Chris has rescued many of these exotic members of the Mustelidae (weasel) family over the years. She loves them deeply, and they respond to her in kind.
Fun-loving, curious and engaging, ferrets can be excellent pets. Chris sent me several photos of her brood ...
